Homemade Fabric Softener Recipe
I make all of my own cleaning products. Homemade Fabric Softener, Laundry Soap, Dish Washing Tablets and even my own Febreze.
They save me TONS of money, and I know exactly what is in them, so I don’t have to worry about harsh chemicals on things my kids use. And with a son who has Eczema, that is important to me.
Making your own Homemade Fabric Softener is super easy, you will wonder why you never did it before.
Ingredients:
- 6 Cups Water
- 2 Cups of your favorite scented hair conditioner
- 3 Cups of White Vinegar
- Essential Oil of your choice (Optional)
Directions:
- Mix the water, hair conditioner and white vinegar together well.
- Add your essential oil a few drops at a time until you reach a scent level you enjoy.
- Store in a air tight container. I use a mason jar. I use mason jars for everything…lol
- Use 1/4 cup per load.
Told ya, Homemade Fabric Softener is super simple, and super cheap!
* Note, when you buy your hair conditioner, be sure to get a 16oz bottle so you have enough. If you don’t have a 16oz bottle, just take about a 1/4 cup of vinegar and water off the recipe.

Thank you for sharing this. I am definitely going to try this. I will try anything to save money because buying fabric softener at the store gets to be expensive. Thanks again.
I am so going to make this and use it for my next laundry! So much more easy than other recipes I’ve seen. Now the question is: which oil? Lavender? Tea Tree? Eucalyptus? Lemon?….
Hmmm… Maybe Lemon Lavender. =)
I am totally digging an orange essential oil right now. Maybe I shall try that!
Thanks for the post. I will be making this. I already make my own laundry detergent.
