Kids Snacks: Octopus Hotdogs

Since it is summer, trying to keep the kids busy and happy is a never ending task. So we I have decided to come up with themes for each week.

This weeks theme is Under the Sea, so to kick it off, I served up some octopus Hotdogs for the kids snacks. Super easy, and kids absolutely LOVED them.

Items Needed:

  • Hot Dogs Cut in Half
  • Spaghetti broke in half
  • Food Gel Coloring (gel coloring gives a much brighter color)

First, let the kiddos pick out their favorite colors. Place water to boil with a bit of food coloring in the water.

You will need to use separate pots for each color, or just do them one color at a time.

While the water is boiling, cut your hotdogs in half, and carefully break your spaghetti noodles in half. Place 6-8 pieces of spaghetti into each hotdog.

Once your water is up to a boil, place your hotdogs in and boil until the pasta is done. The pasta will absorb the food coloring leaving the tentacles a bright colorful and fun color.

Place your Octopus Hotdogs on a plate in a fun fashion, and decorate with some gold fish.

The kids love them, and it took about 10 minutes from start to finish.

Next week we will be tackling a camping theme…. YIKES!
