I love using Coconut Oil. I cook with it, make soap with it, even use it help heal wounds. You wouldn’t believe the never ending uses for coconut oil. I generally order mine from Vitacost, but you can find it pretty much anywhere… Even CVS!
Alternative Uses for Coconut Oil
Health and Cooking:
- Use it in cooking, it has a high smoke point, which makes it great for stir fry and baking.
- Replace your butter with coconut oil.
- Replace any type of cooking oil.
Skin and Hair Care:
- Use as a basic lotion, and lather it on!
- Makes a great on the fly SPF 4 Sunscreen.
- Makes a great eye makeup remover.
- It helps lighten age spots when applied right to the area.
- Prevent stretch marks during pregnancy.
- Treat cradle cap on baby. Apply to babies head and let it set for a few minutes then rinse.
- Dab a bit in the palm of your hands and run it through your hair to prevent frizz.
- Use it as a face moisturizing mask at nigh.
- Mix with equal parts sugar for a gentle exfoliant.
- Deep condition your hair by applying it to your hair and allowing it to set for a few hours.
- Helps to reduce the appearance of varicose veins.
- It helps to relieve the pain of a sunburn.
- Rubbed into scalp daily to stimulate hair growth.
- Mixed with equal parts salt to help remove dead skin.
- Use as a natural deodorant.
- Mixed with catnip, rosemary or mint essential oils as a natural bug repellent.
- Apply to cuticles to help nails grow.
- Natural Chap Stick.
Medical:
- Helps skin heal faster after an injury or infection.
- After giving birth apply directly on the perineum to help heal.
- If breast feeding replace lanolin with coconut oil, it is good for baby too!
