I love using Coconut Oil. I cook with it, make soap with it, even use it help heal wounds. You wouldn’t believe the never ending uses for coconut oil. I generally order mine from Vitacost, but you can find it pretty much anywhere… Even CVS!

Alternative Uses for Coconut Oil

Health and Cooking: 

  1. Use it in cooking, it has a high smoke point, which makes it great for stir fry and baking. 
  2. Replace your butter with coconut oil.
  3. Replace any type of cooking oil.

Skin and Hair Care: 

  1. Use as a basic lotion, and lather it on!
  2. Makes a great on the fly SPF 4 Sunscreen.
  3. Makes a great eye makeup remover.
  4. It helps lighten age spots when applied right to the area.
  5. Prevent stretch marks during pregnancy.
  6. Treat cradle cap on baby. Apply to babies head and let it set for a few minutes then rinse.
  7. Dab a bit in the palm of your hands and run it through your hair to prevent frizz.
  8. Use it as a face moisturizing mask at nigh.
  9. Mix with equal parts sugar for a gentle exfoliant.
  10. Deep condition your hair by applying it to your hair and allowing it to set for a few hours.
  11. Helps to reduce the appearance of varicose veins.
  12. It helps to relieve the pain of a sunburn.
  13. Rubbed into scalp daily to stimulate hair growth.
  14. Mixed with equal parts salt to help remove dead skin.
  15. Use as a natural deodorant.
  16. Mixed with catnip, rosemary or mint essential oils as a natural bug repellent.
  17. Apply to cuticles to help nails grow.
  18. Natural Chap Stick.

Medical: 

  1. Helps skin heal faster after an injury or infection.
  2. After giving birth apply directly on the perineum to help heal.
  3. If breast feeding replace lanolin with coconut oil, it is good for baby too!
  4. Sooth eczema and psoriasis.
  5. Rub coconut oil on the inside of your nose to help with allergy symptoms.
  6. Nursing moms can take 3-4 tablespoons a day to help increase milk supply and nutrients.
  7. Coconut oil helps digestion and may even kill intestinal parasites or yeast.
  8. Can help improve insulin levels.
  9. Can help improve cholesterol ratios.
  10. Add a tbsp or 2 to hot tea to help get over a cold or flu.
  11. The anti-inflammatory properties can help lessen arthritis.
  12. When taken daily helps improve sleep habits.
  13. Take with warm ginger tea to sooth heartburn or nausea.
  14. Use it to fight athlete’s foot or toe fungus.
  15. With apple cider vinegar as a natural treatment for lice that really works.
  16. Ingesting coconut oil daily can help with allergy symptoms.
